August 2020: Happenings at the Orphanage of Hope, Kabale, Uganda

A lot of activity has happened since our last update.

Most notably is the work on the property that was purchased through the generosity of members of the HOUSE OF BREAKTHROUGH OAMARU Church fellowship, to ease the severe over crowding in the Orphanage.

As children grow up so does the space they require to move around in. The photos below show the dramatic transformation of the house with the replacing of the iron roofing and painting in the HOBO colours.

The people take pride in their work and by employing them has helped their survival through incredibly hard times due to Covid 19. At the same time an over hanging mud bank is being removed and the mud used to make mud bricks which will be used in the future to build an extension as well as a.kitchen.

The team have completed the target of 21,000 bricks! Not only do we pay for their labour, we also pay the workers for each brick produced. I am told the making of these bricks is hard, hot and heavy work. You will see in the first photo how the mud was piled up against the house, which would've been a huge risk if the area flooded. It is now safe and we have made bricks out of it! Next month we fire the bricks ... all 21,000 of them! It is also the start of the wet season so between firing the bricks is the need to plant a total of 5 seperate areas ... over 5 hectares (7 acres) - it is going to be a very busy month!

I am currently working on plans to build a seperate school: The Hope Education Centre. Much needs to happen to make this life changing venture a reality, but maybe all the small change that you accumulate could go into the Brick Building Block Fund. Please continue to pray for the Orphanage of Hope. Lives are being changed and even a single dollar (worth 2,250 Ugandan Shillings) makes a huge difference in the lives of our 172 orphans!  We are proud that every single dollar gets to the children at the Orphanage of Hope, Kabale.
